Pune or Punyanagari is located at a height of 1942ft above the sea level. The city, once the capital of Marathas has epical history. It has been a home land of great thinkers, reformers, saints and freedom fighters. The land of Shivaji Maharaj is cultural capital of Maharashtra. The queen of deccan is famous for its cultural heritage and scenic beauty. This city was once known as the bicycle capital of the world, but now it has turned into the motorcycle capital. Pune, often called as the Queen of Deccan is located 160km to the south east of the Maharshtra. The city is situated at the western margins of Deccan Plateau, leeward side of Sahyandri hills and Western Ghats. The city is at a height of 560m above the sea level at the confluence of Mula and Mutha rivers. The climate is pleasant here and the city has 700sq km of Urban area. Pune is managed and administered by Pune Municipal Corporation {PMC}. In order to ensure convenient administration Pune has been divided into five main reigns; central, east, west,north and south. From museums to wildlife, villages, forts, landmarks, gardens and fun centers, Pune has it all. Marathi is the official language of the state of Maharashtra of which Pune is a major city. Marathi and Hindi are the two main languages spoken. English is widely spoken and understood. Gujarati, and other Indian languages are also used by the largely cosmopolitan population. The present population of the town is about 4 million.

Pune is now a fast growing industrial hub of the country. It has become a major industrial centre for automobiles. It is home to one of the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturers- Bajaj Auto. The manufacturing plant of India's largest Passanger car and commercial vehicle manufacturer, Tata Motors, is in Pimpri, a suburb of Pune. Daimler Chrysler also has an assembly line for its Mercedes Benz brand in Pune. It is also home to Kinetic Engineering, Force Motors Ltd (previously known as Bajaj Tempo).
The city has become a prominent place for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies. Companies like Convergys, WNS, Progeon, EXL and MphasiS have started their operations in Pune. The city has huge human resources to operate these companies.Pune also houses the headquarters of the Bank of Maharashtra. To facilitate this explosive economic growth in Pune, the city and the state authority have taken several steps to popularize the industrial policy and other aspects relating to establish industries.
